Proclaiming the Word of the Lord to the congregation at the Liturgy.
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy. Once a child receives Holy Communion, he or she is eligible to serve. If you are in the fourth grade or older (male and female) and are interested in serving at Mass, please speak to Father Michael or call the parish office. Training sessions will be held on Thursdays from 4 to 5 PM. Please consider joining this very important ministry.
Greeting, seating and attending to the needs of the Assembly during Liturgies. All in ministry have the calling of hospitality to serve the needs of our people.
Lectors (Joe Ahlstrom) - The lector is instituted to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the gospel reading. He or she may also announce the intentions for the General Intercessions and, in the absence of the psalmist, sing or read the psalm between the readings.
Holy Name Society (Joe McAnanama) - Members are called to contribute to the evangelization mission of the Church and to make perpetual acts of reverence and love for our Lord and Savior. The apostolate of the society is to assist in parish ministries by performing the Corporal Works of Mercy:to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, shelter to the homeless, tend the sick, visit those in prison, and bury the dead; as well as the Spiritual Works of Mercy (i.e., comfort the sorrowing, pray for the living and the dead).
Legion of Mary (Shawn Montegut) - Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works include parishioner visitation, visitation of the sick or aged, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. Members meet once a week for prayer (i.e, praying of the rosary), planning, and discussion.
Ushers and Greeters (Richie Trabisco, Bill Newman) - Ushers perform various duties involving hospitality. These include meet and greet, setting the tone for prayerful service, seating people, selecting a family for the offertory presentation, passing out collection plates, directing the assembly during communion ceremony, distributing Church bulletins, answering questions or directing members of the congregation to another minister, and lightly cleaning up the sanctuary after service.
Choir - Singing can be a pure form of praise. Young and old, male and female, basses, altos and sopranos -- all voices are welcome. We need you and we want you to join in our Sunday worship to make St. Peter's a better place for everyone.
Bible Study - Bible Studies are an important way of understanding the Catholic Faith. The more we can understand the inspired writings in the books of the Bible, the more we understand the beliefs, celebrations and rituals of our Faith. Bible Study will be held on Tuesdays at 7pm in the Rectory.
There are many ways for you to get involved in the Church. Whatever the task, we can get a lot more things done with your help!
